Essential Companions Guide
The Essential Companion Guide is offered to individuals who require a companion to assist them in accessing the facilities and attractions at The Grand Pier, as well as ensuring their safety, wellbeing and enjoyment.
As the essential companion, you will be given free entry onto The Grand Pier when with your paying individual.
As an Essential Companion, you must be over 14 years old and capable of assisting your paying visitor. Throughout the duration of your visit, the Essential Companion is responsible for understanding the individual’s needs and providing aid as needed.
Assistance Dogs
Thousands of individuals with accessible needs rely on an assistance dog to help them with day to day activities that many take for granted. Assistance dogs are trained to help people with visual impairments, hearing difficulties, epilepsy, diabetes, physical mobility problems and more. Assistance dogs carry out a variety of practical tasks for people as well as supporting their independence and confidence.
For this reason, we welcome assistance dogs to accompany their owners onto The Grand Pier where pet dogs would not be permitted.
Mobility Scooters
Wheelchairs and other mobility aids are available to hire from Dalesway Mobility Centre located at Carlton Street Car Park nearby. Dalesway Mobility Centre can be reached on 01934 642 002.

Members of the British Association of Leisure Parks, Piers and Attractions (BALPPA) welcome visits by disabled people and will do all that is possible to ensure a safe and pleasurable visit. However, certain rides/attractions in our pier can be physically demanding and vigorous. We therefore reserve the right to refuse admission to certain rides/attractions should we feel there is a danger to a particular individual or individuals for whatever reason.
We have been advised by the Health and Safety Executive that refusal on the grounds of health and safety does not constitute discrimination. We hope that you understand and accept the decisions made in the interest of your safety.
