HUNDREDS ATTEND INAUGURAL GRAND PIER CHRISTMAS CAROL COMPETITION
Hundreds of parents, grandparents and school children attended the Grand Pier’s first ever Somerset-wide school Carol Competition on Monday 1st December.
Primary and Secondary schools across the county took part in the event in the Great Hall. Heats had been taking place since October half-term.

SIXTH AXENTIS MICHAEL MEMORIAL BALL RAISES MORE THAN £200,000 The sixth Axentis Michael Memorial Ball, which took place at the Grand Pier on Saturday 22nd November, raised over £200,000 bringing the total raised by the local charity so far, to nearly £1 million. Several celebrities attended the occasion including ex-Manchester United manager and football pundit Ron Atkinson, the designer Jeff Banks, who acted as auctioneer for the evening and Dragon’s Den stars Theo Paphitis and Deborah Meaden.

The Grand Pier is delighted to be able to do their part for Children In Need.
A free colouring competition was held and sent out to over 25 Primary schools around the North Somerset area. For each entry received, the Grand Pier is to donate 50p to Children in Need and the winner of each category is to receive the prize of a Family day out at the Grand Pier. We had an outstanding response, with over 250 entries, we were overwhelmed with the enthusiasm and quality of colouring.

The Grand Pier is celebrating its fourth birthday during a family fun weekend on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th October.
To celebrate, the Grand Pier will be putting on entertainment including displays of extreme sports by world-record holders, face painting, a children’s entertainer, bouncy castle, cheerleaders, gymnasts and dancers. Weston-super-Mare Operatic Society will also be performing a piece from ‘Annie the Musical’ which opens at the Playhouse on 29th October. On Wednesday 29th October between 11am and 3pm Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm will be bringing some creepy crawlies to the Coral Room on the first floor of the Grand Pier. Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm is a unique hands-on zoo and working farm just outside Bristol set in over 100 acres of countryside

The sixth Axentis Michael Memorial Ball will take place in the Great Hall of the Grand Pier on Saturday 22nd November 2014. The ‘Snow Ball’ is expected to be attended by 700 guests.
The ball raises money for local good causes and has raised £750,000 to date. Organisers hope the proceeds from this year’s event will see them break the million pound barrier.

The Grand Pier welcomed 12 youngsters from the area of Belarus close to the Chernobyl border this week. The children come from poor communities within 20 miles of the nuclear explosion site.
The youngsters, aged between seven and eleven years old, were treated to free ride vouchers and spent the day experiencing the thrills to be had inside the Pavilion building.
Belarus is a land-locked country, so for almost all the youngsters this was the first time they had ever seen the sea and none of them had ever visited a Pier before.

HUNDREDS OF RUNNERS, SKIPPERS JOINED IN THE GRAND PIER SPORT RELIEF MILE
Children with cancer and their families from across the South West enjoyed a Spectacular Day Out on the Grand Pier this week.
The Grand Pier has donated 100 teddy bears to the Somerset Flood Relief Centre. The bears were handed over to Terry Gilbert, President of the Weston-super-Mare Rotary Club who delivered them to the centre, just off the M5 in Bridgwater.
The centre was set up immediately after the devastating floods on the Somerset levels, where many families lost all of their possessions and some fear they will never be able to return to their homes again because of serious structural damage caused the sheer weight of the water.

Grand Pier employee Graham Board was presented with a Customer Service Award at a Destination Bristol gala dinner this week. He came second in the Bristol Tourism and Hospitality Awards 2013, in the Individual Customer Service Award for Attraction category.
Graham, 60, joined the Grand Pier staff just before it re-opened after the fire in October 2010. Since then he has proved himself an exceptional member of the team and judges were impressed by his versatility and commitment to his job.

Abanico Salsa will be holding a free ‘Introduction to Salsa’ class on the Grand Pier on Saturday 1st February at 11am. The session will last for one hour.
The class is free and is open to everyone who would like to come along but organiser Angus Peters from Abanico Salsa is hoping that would be dancers will make a donation to Children’s Hospice South West at the event.
