Jodie and Mark

Jodie and Mark

Student learning disability nurse Jodie, 40 and distribution company owner Mark, 44 both from Weston-super-Mare met in their local pub on Halloween three years ago. The happy couple chose the Grand Pier to host their big day in July 2017.

The proposal
Mark took Jodie to a spot in Devon, which is close to his heart as his mother’s ashes were scattered there. Mark surprised Jodie with champagne, strawberries and a ring!

The venue
The couple had attended a few weddings at the Grand Pier and enjoyed the relaxed, non-formal feel. They also liked the layout of the venue, particularly the fact that everything is in the same room.

The big day
The couple decided on a seaside theme for their special day, with plenty of bright colours and fun finishing touches. There was a dedicated sweetie table, a photo booth for guests and even the tables were named after Weston donkeys. The couple ran a ‘guess the first dance’ competition and donated the money raised to Weston Hospice.

For the wedding breakfast, the guests tucked in to a British favourite of ham, egg and chips. Mr Whippy ice cream with a topping station of different sauces, sprinkles and freshly cooked donuts was on offer for pudding. They then enjoyed a varied evening buffet with plenty of food. Many of the guests said this was the best wedding meal they’d ever had!

As the wedding day was also Jodie’s 40th Birthday, Mark arranged for Adam Lipinski to sing Happy Birthday during the speeches. The guests were surprised with singing waiters, which set the tone for the fun-filled day. The hour of free rides was a massive hit with all of the guests and helped break up the lull between the afternoon and evening.

Thoughts from the happy couple
“Our wedding day was fantastic! I can’t recommend it enough as a venue and our wedding organiser, Charlotte, was just brilliant. I can’t think of one request that she didn’t agree to” – Jodie.
