Gin festival is perfect tonic for post-summer blues

Friday 6th September

Never mind ‘chin-chin’, it will be a case of ‘gin gin’ at Weston-super-Mare’s Grand Pier this month as the attraction provides the perfect tonic to help banish any post-summer blues.

The Pier’s annual Gin Festival is returning on Saturday, September 14, offering a grand tour of a variety of flavours from all over the world.

If you’re feeling glum having returned home from your holidays you can recapture that travelling spirit by sampling flavoured gins from all over the globe, in addition to local specialities and traditional craft batches.

New for 2019 is the introduction of Dessert Gins, offering your favourite sweet treats within your favourite tipple.

Strawberries and cream gin from Poetic License, Eden Mill’s rhubarb, vanilla and meringue gin, Sipsmith’s lemon drizzle gin, clotted cream gin from Wrecking Coast, and Solway’s sticky toffee gin will all be available to buy from the Gin Bar.

If the dessert gins don’t tantalise your taste buds, there are around 20 other featured gins that people can buy, full details of which can be found on the Pier’s website.

Tickets for the event, which will take place in the Grand Pier’s Regency Suite between 12 noon and 7pm, cost £15 and guests will arrive to be presented with their ‘passport’ which features details of all the flavours and treats awaiting them behind the dedicated gin bar.

There will be a number of exhibitors offering a range of gins to sample and purchase from their stands, plus a packed programme of masterclasses and talks, all with a gin flavour, of course.

The ticket price includes a gin and tonic on arrival, gin masterclasses, an exclusive branded gin glass, a brochure and access to the gin bar, with a wide range of gins available.

The ticket price also includes live music, with an acoustic set from Oli Boorman, solo singer EmmaLease and Weston-super-Mare’s own Britain’s Got Talent star, Marvin the Jazz Man.

The event is for over 18s only.

Hollie Otley, the Pier’s Events Manager, said: “This is the third year that we’ve run the gin festival. The first two proved very popular and we’re hoping this year’s will be the biggest and best yet.

“The event offers the perfect combination of palette-pleasing flavours, informative talks and masterclasses, and superb live music.

“With most people’s lives returning to their normal routines after the summer holidays, this event provides the perfect pick-me-up and a tremendous tonic to banish any post-holiday and post-summer blues.”
