Grand Pier gears up for new F1 season

Tuesday 5th March

The new Formula 1 season starts this month and Weston-super-Mare’s Grand Pier is ready and raring to help get motor racing fans all geared up for the green light.

The new F1 season starts on Sunday 17 March in Australia, where Britain’s Lewis Hamilton will begin the drive to secure his sixth world title.

For those not able to experience Formula 1 in person, the Grand Pier can offer the next best thing – the chance to see and experience exactly what Lewis Hamilton does when he gets behind the wheel.

The seafront attraction has the only two F1 simulators operating in a family entertainment centre in the UK.

The Pier’s General Manager, Tim Moyle, said: “The simulators we have on the Pier were originally designed for F1 driver training, so they are highly realistic compared to the other driving games you find in amusement arcades.

“The simulators are programmed to feel and react exactly like a real F1 car would, so it’s a chance to truly experience life in the fast lane and experience what Lewis Hamilton and all the other star drivers do when they take to the race tracks all over the world.”

Each of the full-size simulators can carry three people, one driver and two passengers.

Tim said: “With the surround sound and force-feedback controls, the simulators offer an authentic, exhilarating experience for F1 fans.

“They have been proving popular with visitors of all ages and who knows, perhaps a world champion of the future might take their first steps towards that chequered flag by riding one of our simulators.”

For those who want to get even more hands-on and do some ‘real’ racing rather than simulated, the Pier’s electric Go-Karts and 300-metre multi-level indoor track have been given thorough maintenance checks ready for the new season, too.

Younger drivers don’t have to miss out, either, as the Pier has coin-operated Mini-Karts too, with their own special track. While designed specifically for younger children, there is space for a grown-up to sit alongside them.
