Summerslime special at the Grand Pier

Tuesday 9th July

Children are being promised the slime of their lives at Weston-super-Mare’s Grand Pier during this year’s school summer holidays.

The iconic seafront attraction is staging some Spectacular Science and Slime Workshops on Saturday 17 August and Bank Holiday Monday, 26 August, with morning and afternoon sessions on both dates.

The first part of the experience is a one-hour interactive science show which will be packed with awesome experiments including fizzing potions, bubbling concoctions, astonishing giant smoke rings and a whole array of magical, weird and wacky science tricks.

After being inspired, youngsters will be able to visit the slime creation station for a 30-minute slime-making workshop, at the end of which they will receive a Professional Slime Maker certificate to take home – as well as their own goo!

Parents will also be given a link that will enable them to download a PDF containing details of 10 fun-filled science experiments which can be done at home.

While the event is open to children of all ages, it is most suited to those aged between four and 12, and it all takes place in the Pier’s Regency Suite.

The morning science show and workshop runs between 11am and 12.30pm, and the afternoon event runs between 2pm and 3.30pm.

Tickets cost £6 for children and £3 for adults; children who are under 80cm tall will be admitted free. The ticket price includes admission to the Grand Pier itself.

The fun-filled events are being delivered by successful children’s entertainment specialists Sublime Science, who secured Prince’s Trust funding and also backing from BBC’s Dragon’s Den, after founder ‘Mad Marc’ famously fired smoke rings at the ‘Dragons’.

Two of the Dragons, Nick Jenkins and Sarah Willingham then invested in Sublime Science, whose basic aim is to help children discover how awesome science can be, in a fun, engaging and entertaining way.

Lucy Graham, Group Marketing Manager at the Grand Pier said: “We all know that children love to get their hands messy, so I am sure that the slime workshops will prove very popular.

“And as the Sublime Science team says, the event is all about children having real fun doing science, being inspired and entertained (and sneaking in the learning when they’re having too much fun to notice!).

“Sublime Science have brought their critically acclaimed brand of entertainment to more than one million children over the past ten years, so we’re delighted to have them join us for some slimetastic fun on the Pier in August.

“And, of course, those who attended these special events, can entertain themselves before and after the workshops by enjoying the wide range of rides and attractions that the Grand Pier has to offer.

“It can always be a challenge for parents finding different ways to keep their children entertained during the long summer holidays, but the Grand Pier has enough to keep the whole family occupied for many hours and is the ideal location for some summer holiday fun.

“Whether you are visiting town for a day – it’s easy to get to by road or rail – or coming from further afield for a longer stay, if you come to Weston-super-Mare then a visit to the Grand Pier is a must-do activity.

“We are looking forward to welcoming lots of happy youngsters – and therefore happy parents too – during the summer holidays.”
