Weston-super-Mare Samaritans are transforming several iconic and well-known local landmarks green this weekend. The award-winning attraction, The Grand Pier, along with the popular restaurant Revo Kitchen and the iconic Silica, will all be showing their support by lighting up green on 20th – 21st April. This effort aims to celebrate Samaritans being named the Charity of the Year for the 2024 TCS London Marathon.
While thousands of runners take on the iconic 26.2-mile route on the streets of London on Sunday 21 April, Samaritans volunteers across the UK and Ireland will be cheering on participants who are taking on London Marathon’s MyWay, a remote marathon the public can take part in wherever they want.
The suicide prevention charity is aiming to tackle the stigma around suicide, through its London Marathon partnership, by sharing stories of hope and encouraging the public to play a part in suicide prevention to help others to believe in tomorrow.
Weston-super-Mare Samaritans Branch Director, Jo Green said: “At a marathon we see people rally together to support their loved ones, knowing their support can help get them through it. Yet many people struggle with suicidal thoughts in silence.
“Lighting up Grand Pier, Revo and the Silica green for marathon day is a reminder that Samaritans is here for anyone, wherever they are, that is struggling to cope 24/7, 365 days a year.
“We’re really grateful to everyone for supporting Weston-super-Mare Samaritans and helping us spread this message of hope and reminding people across Weston-super-Mare and North Somerset that they are never alone.”
