Weston-super-Mare Sheds ‘Worst Seaside’ Label as It Becomes a Top Trending UK Destination for 2026

Weston-super-Mare has officially reclaimed its position as a must-visit British seaside spot, being named a Trending Destination for 2026 by coach operator FlixBus. Once known for its Victorian holiday heritage, the Somerset town is enjoying a new wave of popularity as travellers rediscover the charm of traditional British beach breaks.

At the centre of Weston-super-Mare’s comeback is the iconic Grand Pier, a Grade II listed landmark first opened in 1904, blending nostalgic seaside fun with modern entertainment.

Visitors can enjoy:

  • Classic rides including Dodgems, Helter Skelter, and House of Horrors.
  • A two-level indoor Go-Kart track and a three-level dinosaur-themed soft play area.
  • More than 500 arcade games, from retro classics to modern favourites.
  • Five restaurants, bars, and cafés serving everything from traditional fish and chips to afternoon tea and ice cream.

Open daily except Christmas Day, The Grand Pier continues to provide year-round, indoor entertainment for visitors.

Beyond the pier, visitors are drawn to Weston-super-Mare’s wide sandy beach, refreshed promenade areas, and blossoming independent food scene, including popular spots such as Revo Kitchen and Terrace. Cultural attractions, including Weston Museum and The Helicopter Museum, provide insight into the town’s heritage, while seasonal markets and events further enhance its appeal.

Michelle Michael MBE, Owner of The Grand Pier said: “We are thrilled that FlixBus has recognised we have a lot to offer in Weston-super-Mare. With over three miles of flat beaches, plenty of great food and drink choices and a value day out at The Grand Pier, a fun day out for all the family.”

FlixBus’ recognition highlights the growing demand for domestic travel, as more visitors seek authentic, accessible seaside experiences that combine nostalgia with simple escapism.
