Paul Hobbs 30th Anniversary Grand Pier Walk – 15th August 2024
West Country charity fundraiser Paul Hobbs is already half way towards his target of raising £10,000 for Cancer Research UK even before he has taken a single step on his major challenge next month.
Paul, 75, is planning on walking 30 miles around Weston-super-Mare’s iconic Grand Pier on Thursday 15th August to raise funds for research following the recent sad loss of his devoted wife Maureen to a rare form of cancer.
Having previously walked a marathon on the Grand Pier in 2021, which raised £10,000 for the British Heart Foundation, Paul decided a 30 mile trek would be an appropriate distance to mark his 30th year of charity fundraising. During this time he has raised over £1 million for good causes.
Thanks to donations from the public and some generous sponsorship from local companies, Paul’s fundraising page for the event in August has already topped £5,000 but he is determined that his walk will help generate substantial further funds to take him to his target.
“I’m really excited about what looks like being a great, festival day on August 15th with lots of entertainment planned for visitors to The Grand Pier as I walk around,” says Paul.
“I’m devastated at the loss of Maureen and trying to come to terms with life without her, but she urged me to carry on and reach that £10,000 target for Cancer Research UK.”
Paul has issued an open invitation to various celebrities, local businesses and sports clubs to come and join him on the day and maybe walk a few laps with him. But the priority is to attract donations for the fund which can be accessed online via this link: https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/paul-hobbs-30-mile-walk-on-grand-pier-for-30-years-fundraising
